Tomorrow the Links are heading down to my old stomping grounds, Orlando, Florida. My family moved there when I was 13 years old ( the age of my firstborn..........wow!). Going back to my home is always so much fun and brings back many memories. One of the memories I have in my old home is when I was standing in my kitchen making lunch and in comes this stranger/thief right through my back door just a few feet away from me. I reacted instantly, surprisingly not with fear, but rather with shock at the audacity of someone just walking through MY back door. I looked straight at him and said, "Excuse me.......what do you think you are doing??" Thankfully, the man just turned around and walked back out at which I vividly remember yelling out behind him, '"Yeah, you better keep walking!!!!!" It's funny to think about now. I did eventually become a little shaky in the knees after he left, realizing what had just happened. At the time, however, I was just shocked at the boldness of the intruder and angry that he thought he could just come right into my peaceful, joyful home and possibly take something that was not his. As I reflect on this memory it reminds me of someone else I've read about and know. " The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10:10 "Resist the devil and he will flee from you." James 4 :7 There is a thief, an intruder who seeks often to enter our "home" ( our mind, our thinking, our heart) and steal our peace, joy, righteousness. He seeks to fill our thoughts with fear, anxiety & worry, malice, envy, etc.........May we respond to that darn thief with the boldness of Christ saying to him, "Excuse me.......who do you think you are/what do you think you are doing?? Yeah, that's right, you better keep walking." God longs for his children to be filled in the deep, inner places of our heart with joy, peace, and righteousness........it is the "kingdom of heaven." He requires US to stand up to that pesky intruder and resist him. May we be alert to his presence and activity, may we be angry at his audacity, and may we fight back so that he will flee and our homes/hearts will reign with peace & joy. Blessings from Bombadil. Build
Directly across from our home, our neighbors are building on a new sun room. It is soooo fun to see something come from nothing. I have loved watching the builders lay the foundation and build this sun room up with much skill. I can't seem to get these truths about building out of my mind: "For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and BUILDER IS GOD." Hebrews 11:10 "Instead, they were longing for a better country-a heavenly one." Hebrews 11:16 "For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come." Hebrews 13:14 "...We are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the HOME of righteousness." 2 Peter313 "I laid a foundation as an expert BUILDER, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. " 1 Corinthians3: 10 & 11 May our foundation be JESUS. YOU SEE EVERYTHING???
"Nothing in all of creation is hidden from God's sight." Hebrews 4:12 NO THING in all of creation is hidden from God's sight. No thing in ALL OF CREATION is hidden from God's sight. No thing in all of creation is HIDDEN from God's sight. No thing in all of creation is hidden from GOD'S SIGHT. Start with you and your own heart and mind. Nothing that you, one little soul in this HUGE universe, think about is hiddden from him (Psalm 139). Now think about your family. God sees each one of them and what they have been through, done, thought, seen, heard every single moment of their life. Step outside your family to your neighborhood, your city, your state, your country and every other country............ALL OF CREATION.........all that has been created, every single soul that has EVER lived has been SEEN BY GOD. "Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my FOOTSTOOL..." Isaiah 66:1 "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! HOW HUGE ARE YOU, GOD? HOW AMAZING ARE YOU??? Remember that song from a long time ago, "I always feel like someone is watching me, ..and I have no privacy."" ???? Someone is watching us. And not just "us" but "ALL OF CREATION. That Someone is God Almighty and he is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. No matter what you go through today, no matter where you are....GOD SEES YOU......and he doesn't just see the outside you.........he sees your HEART. ....and he cares about you more than anyone ever has or will. Happy Mom Monday!
As my children are getting older, I am finding the battle for their precious souls increasing. There is a world of evil out there that desires to have them. This battle requires the use of some serious weapons: God's word, prayer, wisdom and the courage and determination to engage and fight. Here is one of the weapons I had to use recently: " Eli's sons were wicked men; they had no regard for the Lord. Now it was the practice of the preists with the people that whenever anyone offered a sacrifice and while the meat was being boiled, the servant of the priest would come with a three- pronged fork in his hand. He would plunge it into the pan or kettle or caldron or pot, and the priest would take for himself whatever the fork brought up. This is how they treated all the Israelites who came to shiloh. But even before the fat was burned, the servant of the priest would come and say to the man who was sacrificing, "Give the priest some meat to roast; he won't accept boiled meat from you, but only raw." If the mand said to him, "Let the fat be burned up first, and then take whatever you want," the servant would then answer, "No, hand it over now; if you don't, I'll take it by force." This sin of the young men was very great in the LORD'S sight, for they were treating the LORD'S offering with contempt..................Now Eli, heard about everything his sons were doing to all Isreal and how they slept with the women who served at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting. so he said to them, "Why do you do such things? I hear from all the people about these wicked deeds of yours. No, my sons; it is not a good report that I hear spreading among God's people. ...His sons, however, did not listen to their father's rebuke....Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, "This is what the Lord says: ' Did I not clearly reveal myself to your father's house when they were in Egypt under Pharoah?...........WHY DO YOU HONOR YOUR SONS MORE THAN ME by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people, Isreal?.......................I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons made themselves contemptible, and HE FAILED TO RESTRAIN THEM." 1 Samuel 2:12-17, , 22-25, 27,29:and 3; 13 A few observations and questions: What made Eli's sons wicked???? They had no regard for the Lord. Am I teaching my children to have regard for the Lord??? What does "regard for the Lord" look like??? Is there anywhere in my parenting, are there things that I am allowing, where I am honoring my children MORE than I am honoring God???? I am to make it my goal as a parent to HONOR GOD FIRST. God will judge me and my family for sins I know about but FAIL TO RESTRAIN. It is not enough to simply rebuke. As parents, we MUST restrain our children. It is our responsibility to "control, check, repress, deprive of freedom, restrict....for their own good." May we as parents be regularly interacting with God's words and putting them into practice that we might be faithful in this most holy job he has given us. May we honor him more than our children. Belonging and acceptance
Acceptance and Belonging. We ALL want, desire, and long for both of them. ACCEPT- receive gladly; take willingly; Receive as adequate or satisfactory; admit to a group or place; be favorably disposed to. ACCEPTANCE- the state of being accepted. Favorable reception; approval BELONG- to be the property or concern of; To be part of or in natural association with something; To have a proper and suitable place; BELONGING- close and secure relationship People go to extreme lengths in search of acceptance and belonging. Hear what God has to say: " Every living soul BELONGS to me,' declares the LORD." Ezekiel 18:4 "If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you BELONGED to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you DO NOT BELONG to the world, but I have CHOSEN YOU out of the world." John 15:18 & 19 "And you also are among those who are called to BELONG TO JESUS CHRIST." Romans 1:6 "If we live, we live to the Lord; and if we die, we die to the Lord. So whether we live or die, we BELONG to the Lord." Romans 14:8 "But you, sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons /daughters of the light and of the day. Mom Monday
Last night I spent the evening at a Memorial service for a woman who was a mother to four boys. As I sat there in the sadness and holiness of the moment, I listened intently to every word that was spoken from the hearts of these sons. Many things were said to honor her and I left my time there reminded of the joy, the gift, the sacred calling, the struggle & difficulty, the incredible beauty, the influence, impact and the preciousness of each moment of being a mom. I sat there watching one of the sons hold with great care a framed poem his mom had him memorize. It was the poem, "Try, Try Again": Try, Try Again by T. H. Palmer 'Tis a lesson you should heed, if at first you don't succeed, Try, try again; Then your courage should appear, For if you will PERSEVERE, You will conquer, never fear Try, try again; Once or twice, though you should fail, If you would at last prevail, Try, try again; If we strive, 'tis no disgrace Though we do no win the race; What should you do in the case? Try, try again. If you find your task is hard, Time (God) will bring you your reward, Try, try again All that other folks can do, Why, with patience, should not you? Only keep this rule in view: Try, try again. What a beautiful lesson for a mom to pass on to her child. What a beautiful lesson for God to pass on to us, His Children struggling as moms, wives, friends, daughters, employers, students, neighbors, sisters, etc.... God says it like this: "Though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again." Proverbs 24:16 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a reward IF WE DO NOT GIVE UP." Galatians 6:9 "He PERSEVERED because he saw him who is invisible." Hebrews 11:27 May we be mindful and careful about what we are passing on to our children. May we see our role as mom, as the incredible opportunity and gift it is. When we fail as moms and feel like giving up (which is often in my case) may we heed these words to not give up, to rise again, and to "Try, try again." Blessings from Bombadil. happy St. Patrick's day
Happy St. Patrick's Day. He was the man God used to bring His word to people who did not yet know him. May we be like St. Patrick today bringing God, Jesus, and his words to those whom God sends us this day. May we be faithful to the task of being HIS MESSENGER. "How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without SOMEONE (YOU?) preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are SENT? As it is written , "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!"........faith comes from HEARING THE MESSAGE, and the message is heard through the word of Christ." Romans 10:14,15,17 To whom does God want you to be a "St. Patrick" today??? "Let him who has my word SPEAK IT FAITHFULLY. For what has straw to do with grain? declares the Lord. It's all about him.

There is ONLY ONE WHO IS WORTHY..........His name is JESUS! "I wept and wept because no one was found who was WORTHY to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, "DO NOT WEEP! SEE THE LION OF THE TRIBE OF JUDAH, THE ROOT OF DAVID, HAS TRIUMPHED. HE IS ABLE TO OPEN THE SCROLL................" Revelation 5:4 & 5 Give HIM GLORY. Give HIM HONOR. Thank HIM who gave up his life to pay the price for every wrong thing you've ever done or will do. Psalm 46
I spent some time reading about the Tsunami in Japan this morning. Struck by the reality (again.....for the millionth time) that things can happen incredibly fast that are completely out of our control, I wondered how well I have prepared my children (and myself for that matter). Reflecting upon this, I think it would be wise to impress this truth upon my own heart first and then my childrens: PSALM 46 "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its water roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts. The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. BE STILL, AND KNOW THAT I AM GOD; I WILL BE EXALTED AMONG THE NATIONS, I WILL BE EXALTED IN THE EARTH. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress." May we impress God's words upon the hearts of our children because, " Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes." James 4:14 May this truth lead us to draw near to God and Jesus who in the end is what this life is all about. Ward off the captivity!
"Your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you? The visions of your prophets were FALSE and WORTHLESS, they did not EXPOSE YOUR SIN TO WARD OFF YOUR CAPTIVITY. The oracles they gave you were FALSE AND MISLEADING." Lamentations 2:13-14 EXPOSE----- to lay open, as to something undesirable or injurious; make visible or make known; reveal; bring to the light. SIN--- any offense, violation, fault or error; wrong.....violate a religious or moral law; a condition of estrangement from God as a result of breaking His law. WARD--- to turn aside; avert; repel; guard; watch; protect CAPTIVITY--- The state of being captive; like a prisoner; one who is enslaved by a strong emotions or passion; under restraint or controlled. May we bring to the light any wrong, error or fault we have done that we may be protected from becoming enslaved by strong emotions ....May we become "Slaves of righteousness" and "Prisoners of the Lord." May we not be afraid to call sin what it is and therefore help protect ourselves and others from captivity. May we have nothing to do with what is false, misleading or worthless. The REAL DEAL
I received an AT & T notice the other day telling me I would lose info. if I did not respond with my name and password. Thankfully, I had experienced something like this before and learned my lesson the hard way. Still, when I got this recent notice my first reaction was to give in. I had to think, "What did the real A T & T tell you last time? They told you they would NEVER ask for your password." I had to trust in what the REAL A T & T people told me in order to not be decieved by the imposters. My son, Jake, is a cereal connisseur (however you spell that)...He knows his cereal. While he is enjoying each spoonful he usuallly studies the entire box of cereal he is eating. The other day we had a box of cereal come into our home that I thought was "Cinnamon Toast Crunch." Jake very quickly informed me this wasn't the REAL DEAL. He knew because he spent time studying the REAL Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal box. There are all kinds of false religions out there. Some are very close to the Real deal and so it can be very difficult to discern what is true and what isn't. May we spend soooo much time learning about the ONE TRUE GOD and what HIS WORD says that we are not easily deceived by those that have a resemblence of the truth but they are NOT the gospel. "I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel- which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you , let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned! Am I now trying to win the approval of men, or of God? or am I trying to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ." Galatians 1:6-10 "I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. FOr if someone comes to you and preaches A JESUS other than THE JESUS we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily enough." 2 Corinthians 11:3-4 "See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world, rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority." Happy Mom Monday
Happy Mom Monday. Try meditating on this today: This is a portion of Psalm 78; " O my people, hear my teaching; listen to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter hidden things, things from of old- what WE HAVE HEARD AND KNOWN, what our fathers have told us. WE WILL NOT HIDE THEM FROM THEIR CHILDREN; WE WILL TELL THE NEXT GENERATION THE PRAISEWORTHY DEEDS OF THE LORD, HIS POWER, AND THE WONDERS HE HAS DONE. He decreed statutes for Jacob and established the law in Isreal, which he COMMANDED our forefathers to TEACH THEIR CHILDREN, SO THE NEXT GENERATION WOULD KNOW THEM, EVEN THE CHILDREN YET TO BE BORN, AND THEY IN TURN WOULD TELL THEIR CHILDREN. Then they would put their TRUST IN GOD and would NOT FORGET HIS DEEDS BUT WOULD KEEP HIS COMMANDS. They would not be like their forefathers- a stubborn and rebellious generation, whose HEARTS WERE NOT LOYAL TO GOD, WHOSE SPIRITS WERE NOT FAITHFUL TO HIM. ........................................... ..................................When the Lord heard them, he was very angry; ...for they DID NOT BELIEVE IN GOD OR TRUST IN HIS DELIVERANCE............IN SPITE OF HIS WONDERS, THEY DID NOT BELIEVE.....HOW OFTEN THEY REBELLED AGAINST HIM IN THE DESERT AND GRIEVED HIM IN THE WASTELAND! AGAIN AND AGAIN THEY PUT GOD TO THE TEST; THEY VEXED THE HOLY ONE OF ISREAL. THEY DID NOT REMEMBER HIS POWER......." May we pass on God's teaching to our children. If we had mothers/fathers who told us of the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord may we thank them often for their faithfulness and loyalty to God. If we did not have parents that loved the Lord,may that not stop us from beginning NOW to know & love God and teach our children. May we be faithful to the task of knowing his wonders and REMEMBERING THEM. May we be diligent in guarding our own hearts and spirits that they would be LOYAL AND FAITHFUL to the One we were made for. May we believe His words and trust in him remembering his power. If we have rebellious and stubborn chidlren may we take comfort in knowing that God knows exactly what that feels like. May WE NOT BE STUBBORN AND REBELLIOUS CHILDREN TOWARD HIM. May we continue to pray for our children BELIEVING IN GODS WORDS that say, "The prayers of a righteous man/woman are POWERFUL AND EFFECTIVE." May we not give up praying for our children until we see the wonders of God, until our children have soft, moldable, loyal hearts that do not refuse to live by his ways. May we trust in his deliverance. May we be the kind of children to God that we so desperately desire our children to be: obedient, loving to their brothers/sisters, cheerful helpers, selfless, generous, forgiving..........May we live by the golden rule as we parent today, "Do to others (God) as we would have others (our children) do to us." Isaiah 48:17 & 18 Could it be, that the reason our peace isn't like that of a river, is because we aren't paying attention to his commands? Might it be that we aren't GOING in the way we SHOULD GO??? Do we know and obey his commands? May we search our hearts and His words. May we be obedient to the command to "watch our life closely" and "above all else to guard our hearts.." that we may have PEACE LIKE A RIVER. Can you hear God's heart and longing for us, the people he so deeply loves, to experience PEACE?.........."IF only......" May we have a PEACEFUL day as we pay attention to and obey his commands. Be careful what you think
I made up a little song the other day to sing first to MYSELF and then to my children: (Sung to the tune of "Oh be careful little eyes what you see..") "Oh be careful what you THINK, Kristy LINK, Oh be careful what you THINK, Kristy LINK In a blink, in a wink, your soul could begin to sink Oh be careful Kristy Link what you THINK." "Set your MINDS on things above, not on earthly things." Colossians 3:2 "We take captive every THOUGHT to make it obedient to Christ." 2 Corinthians 10:5 " Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- THINK about such things." Phillipians 4:8 "May the words of my mouth and the MEDITATIONS OF MY HEART (what I think about) be pleasing in your sight, o LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer." Psalm 19:14 May we THINK about how much we are loved today. May it fill up our minds this day that we have the most grandiose "VACATION" in PARADISE to look forward to........better than Hawaii, Florida, etc.... (have you noticed that people who are looking forward to an upcoming vacation have an excitement, peace, joy about them). May we go into this day excited with the thinking that we have opportunity to make God's name look really good through our obedience to his commands. May we THINK, 'How am I going to LOVE someone today??" May we be careful what we think that our joy,peace and love is not taken from us.
